Summary
The Porter is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment throughout the property. This is a union position. The role helps ensure all common areas, entrances, and facilities are well maintained and presentable for residents, visitors, and staff. Duties include routine cleaning, basic maintenance support, supply restocking, and responding to cleaning or safety needs as they arise.
Responsibilities and Duties
Sweep, mop, vacuum, and maintain floors, carpets, vents, restrooms, and other common areas.
Keep building entrances, lobbies, and exterior areas clean, clear, and free of clutter.
Restock restroom and cleaning supplies as needed.
Perform minor maintenance tasks, such as replacing light bulbs.
Identify and report property damage or maintenance concerns; coordinate with technicians and monitor repairs when needed.
Maintain an organized inventory of cleaning supplies and notify management when items need to be replenished.
Place appropriate safety signage for wet floors, wet paint, and other potential hazards.
Respond promptly to spills, cleaning emergencies, and other urgent property needs.
Follow all health, safety, and building regulations.
Follow emergency and evacuation procedures when necessary.
Job requirements
Previous experience as a Porter, Janitor, Custodian, or in a similar cleaning or maintenance role preferred.
Experience using industrial cleaning equipment and supplies.
Ability to perform physical tasks throughout the shift, including standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting up to 40+ pounds.
Strong stamina and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Familiarity with building safety and security procedures.
Effective verbal communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with residents, staff, vendors, and visitors.
Availability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and shifts as needed.
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Reliable, professional, and able to follow directions and company policies.
Must wear the required company uniform while on duty.
