Summary
The Traveling Handyman is responsible for maintaining the company’s facilities and properties across multiple locations, ensuring they remain safe, functional, and presentable. This role involves performing a variety of maintenance and repair tasks, responding to tenant and property manager requests, and supporting the efficient operation of building systems at various sites.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Travel to assigned properties to inspect community spaces and identify issues such as mechanical failures, damage, or safety hazards.

  • Respond promptly to emergency maintenance requests at various locations.

  • Perform routine and requested maintenance services, including replacing air filters, installing locks, troubleshooting smoke detectors, and completing minor repairs.

  • Repair plumbing, electrical, and safety systems in tenant units as needed.

  • Prepare units for move-ins and ensure they meet company standards.

  • Maintain exterior spaces, including parking lots, sidewalks, and common areas, ensuring they remain clean, safe, and presentable.

  • Service sprinkler systems, trash receptacles, and other property infrastructure across multiple sites.

  • Test in-unit appliances such as refrigerators, microwaves, stoves, and ovens.

  • Provide tenants with guidance on maintaining their apartment homes.

  • Communicate effectively with property managers and maintenance staff to coordinate tasks and report completed work.

  • Manage and maintain maintenance work tickets using building management software.

Job requirements

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.

  • Proven experience with plumbing, electrical, and general maintenance tasks required.

  • Proficient with common hand and power tools.

  • Familiarity with apartment layouts and building infrastructure.

  • Ability to physically stand, bend, squat, and lift up to 40+ pounds while traveling between sites.

  • Knowledge of security and safety regulations.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently across multiple locations.

  • Strong commitment to company standards for safety, tenant service, and efficiency.

  • Reliable, professional, and able to maintain a company uniform while on duty.
